Lebanese Youth Coalition against Corruption (LYCAC)
The Youth Civil Society & Leadership (YCSL) program started in April 2008 as a joint initiative between the Lebanese Transparency Association(LTA) and the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). The YCSL program brought together a network of youth leaders and activists, among them members of the 20 anti-corruption groups formed under the umbrella of this initiative. More than 500 youth leaders participated so far in the YCSL program activities including the 325 youth who attended 88 hours of extensive issue-based training. In addition, 136 young men and women submitted applications to receive small grants and implement anti-corruption projects. Youth leaders participating in the YCSL activities are from 38 villages in seven of the most volatile regions in Lebanon and belong to fourteen (14) different religious communities.
The beneficiaries of the program are youth civil society leaders from across the country and form a coalition aiming at fighting corruption. In addition to training youth leaders on implementing anti-corruption initiatives, the program established partnerships with other youth-led anti-corruption efforts to strengthen the advocacy and anti-corruption movement and maximize impact.
To consolidate transparency and accountability efforts of the youth over the life of the program and to officially launch the coalition, the program launched the Lebanese Youth Coalition Against Corruption (LYCAC) that includes more than 500 volunteer, anti-corruption youth activists (ages 18-25), serving as LYCAC representatives from across the country |
